August Happenings (UPDATED)

So...the show originally scheduled for the first Thursday of August, at X-17 studio/gallery in Pioneer Square's 619 Western building, will NOT be happening, after all... I just got the word that the dreaded fate of the 619 building is coming to pass. No more first Thursdays at 619. The end of an era, and the displacement of a bunch of talented artists.
The group showcase featuring J.P. Farquar, and me...Ego, will now be taking place in September at the new TRUE LOVE gallery, in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood.
I'll be posting more info soon...

The second week of August, I will be presenting a group showcase of some talented friends of mine at Twilight Artists Collective, in West Seattle.
The show will be the gallery premiere of the works of Tammy Perry, alongside the beautiful handiwork of Aya Sato, and Levi Walker Polzin.

Leaving on a jet plane...

This Thursday, March 3rd I will be on a plane, headed to the U.K. for my art exhibition at WEEKEND GALLERY in Hastings.

This will be my first showing outside of the U.S. and... so far, I feel very welcome. There was a flattering article, by Richard Morris, featured in the Hastings Observer... and, one of the pieces from the show has already sold, a week before the show even opens.

If you're going to be in the neighborhood, I would love to see you at the opening.

...Sorry if my previous post about this show being in February was confusing to anyone...the details changed a couple of months ago, and I neglected to update the ol' blog...
and, last...but, certainly not least...
T H A N K Y O U ! ! ! to everyone who donated their hard-earned dollar$ to help get me across the pond for this show. If you haven't gotten your print yet, I promise I haven't forgotten you...
(To say "I've been busy lately" would be an epic understatement.)

Portland Upper Playground, and setting the record straight...

Hello again, and welcome to another edition of stuff I post to further clutter the transglobal interwebs...

I'd like to start by inviting everyone in, and around Portland, Oregon to come to the "Boy Girl Boy Girl" group art showcase, featuring Kinoko, Sohaila Adela, Solace, and me... at the Fifty24 gallery inside the Upper Playground store, Downtown ( 23 Northwest 5th Avenue Portland, OR 97209 (503) 548-4835 ). The show opens today, Thursday February 3, with a reception that lasts from 6pm-10pm. (the show will be on display through the end March...). Hope to see you there! (below is the post from the Fifty 24 PDX blog)

“Boy Girl Boy Girl” is a showcase of four very different styles that are all uniquely indigenous to this region. From the colorful characters of Solace to the dainty yet dangerous work of Sohaila Adela, or Ego’s “creepy cuteness” and Kinoko’s iconic illustrations; each artist embraces and represents the culture manifested by the Great Northwest. All artists will be in attendance: Ego and Solace from Seattle, Kinoko and Sohaila from Portland). Refreshments provided courtesy of RedHook .

Next... I'd like to apologize to my fellow artiste, Barth, whom I mentioned in my last post. You may, or may not have noticed that he commented on the post showing our heart-eating zombie girls, side by side. He was offended that he was was being accused of borrowing my concept... and while it may be an uncanny coincedence that our characters and layout are strikingly similar...it is, apparently, just that... a coincedence.

So, in the spirit of fairness and fellowship... again, Barth, I apologize, and wish you all the best.

Just passing the time...

I don't really have much time on my hands right now, getting ready for upcoming shows and all... but, I stumbled across this on the old interwebs, and thought I'd share.

So it appears that an artist called Barth borrowed an idea from me... which is no big deal, it happens all the time...but, damn...he could have at least tipped his hat to me a little on his blog by mentioning my name. Oh well, C'est la vie. Here's a little side by side comparison. (His is the cooler looking one, on the left... note: mine was done many years ago, and I have learned a lot since then...)

Oh... I'd also say it would be nice if he mentioned Ashley Wood, and Jim Mahfood too... since it looks like he was more than a little inspired by their work, also.

OK. I'm done now... back to work!

EGO's British Invasion...

EGO has some exciting stuff coming up in the new year and could use your help. His first ever overseas art show is coming up next month in England and he'd like to infect a whole new continent by arriving with his creepy creatures and oddities. It isn't a cheap plane seat though, so we've come up with a way you can help. We printed a super limited run (40) of an exclusive 11 x 14, 2 color, hand screened print which will be available for a $40 "Send me to England" donation.

If you have always wanted your own EGO art but didn't have hundreds of dollars for an original painting, this is a great chance to get a one of a kind piece, at a super affordable price. There are only 40 and when they are gone they're gone, so act fast! Thanks, and we love you.

Extra special thanks to Brennan Coyle at Perch Graphics, and Sara Russert.

Hey! Remember me?

Sorry I haven't checked in for a while... you know- the Holidays, and all...
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Anyway...moving right along...
I just wanted to check in to let everyone know that I'm alive and well, and working on some new artsy stuff for 2011. I am planning to show less this year, in an effort to not spread myself so thin, and hopefully, in doing so, improve the quality of work I'm putting out into the world.
The first couple of shows of the new year are next month (February).
One in Portland, Oregon, at the Fifty/24PDX gallery at the Upper Playground store
(23 NW 5th Ave
Neighborhood: Old Town.)
A group show called "Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl" featuring the art of Kinoko, Sohaila Adela, Solace, and me.

The other February show is at Weekend Gallery in Hastings, U.K.
(86 High Street
Hastings
East Susse
x)
Also a group show, and my first time showing outside the U.S. (See blog entry above to see how you can help...).

I'll be providing more info on these, and other upcoming shows, as it becomes available.

The pic posted above is the last finished painting I created in 2010. It was a commissioned piece for Jeff Houston, of Under the Needle Tattoo in Seattle.

Titled-"Self Defense..." 11x14 Acrylic on Masonite.

As always...Thanks for stopping by, and/or giving a shit about what I do.
